# EsploraMerkleProof

The merkle-proof response from an Esplora-compatible indexer (`GET /tx/:txid/merkle-proof`, as served by Blockstream and mempool.space). [buildLockProof](/reference/stacks.js/stacks-bitcoin-staking/proof/buildlockproof.md) takes it as `merkleProof`.

***

### Usage

```ts
import type { EsploraMerkleProof } from '@stacks/bitcoin-staking';
declare const esplora: string; // base URL of an Esplora-compatible API
declare const txid: string; // funding transaction ID
const merkleProof: EsploraMerkleProof = await (
  await fetch(`${esplora}/tx/${txid}/merkle-proof`)
).json();
```

### Definition

```ts
interface EsploraMerkleProof {
  /** BTC block height containing the tx. */
  block_height: number;
  /** Sibling hashes (display/big-endian hex) along the path leaf -> root, bottom-up. */
  merkle: string[];
  /** 0-indexed position of the tx within the block. */
  pos: number;
}
```

| -------------- | ---------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `block_height` | `number` | Bitcoin block height containing the transaction. Becomes `height` in the lockup output |
| `merkle`       | `string[]` | Sibling hashes from leaf to root, bottom-up, as display-order (big-endian) hex. [buildLockProof](/reference/stacks.js/stacks-bitcoin-staking/proof/buildlockproof.md) reverses each to the internal little-endian order pox-5 folds over |
| `pos` | `number` | Zero-based position of the transaction in the block. Becomes `txIndex` in the lockup output |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.stacks.co/reference/stacks.js/stacks-bitcoin-staking/proof/esploramerkleproof.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
